Tranquility

The ocean can be a very exciting subject when in an agitated state. Crashing waves and surf have been painted very often. However I came across a picture of calm waters that caught my eye. The water was forming such interesting patterns that I could not resist the temptation to paint it. However there is a gap between the cup and the lip......I faltered many times during the painting. Gave up entirely a few times..... but then something forced me to continue every time. Had started with acrylics. Somewhere down the line switched over to oils. Had no intentions, but ultimately finished it in a semi abstract style. However the most important thing is that it is finally over.......!!!!

  1. Ocean is definitely an exciting subject that has challenged me each time I have given it a try.. I do agree that with a lot more playing around with no fixed rules, sometimes, the end result may turn out to be stunning, that is what has happened here. Especially when the abstract is derived from nature, the essence of the painting is felt in the color and movement and I feel that in this piece.

  2. I really like this. It's interesting how you moved to semi-abstract at the end. It all works though. I'm really impressed with the way you handled the wave pattern in the foreground. And your abstract bit at the back is tied into the foreground with the rectangles in the bottom right corner. Nice!

  3. The blue colours merge beautifully...the brush strokes are delightful. Acrylics and Oils...interesting. Was interested to know what prompted you to change the medium

  4. As you know, I am sitting and painting in the middle of nowhere with the limited material that I have carried with me. Unfortunately I had only prussian blue in acrylics. I was getting restricted by the number of hues in blue that I could create. The painting being monochromatic, I needed more. Hence........ Thanks every one.

  12. I really like how there are nice curves at the bottom edge of the page with very subtle rectangles in the waves and then how the rectilinear shapes become more pronounced as they go up towards the top of the painting.
