Celestial Buddha

Some times things just do not work out the way you want them to. I had something in mind. Buddha is considered an apostle of peace. Buddhism propagates love peace and harmony. I wanted to project Buddha as a heavenly body, but try as I might, the painting did not turn out the way I wanted it to. After several hiccups, this is what emerged.  I am not happy with the result but am still posting it here. After all it is a part of my journey with colors.

  1. I think what is missing is the serenity and peace you were looking for in painting it. However, you have shown the Buddha as a powerful being - which he was. I think it's a successful painting. Maybe do another trying for that serenity and calm by making the background sky more simple and calm? And I really loved your Winter painting a la Jackson Pollock!

  2. I've been there - and posted many I don't like too ; ) As you say - it's part of the journey...
RH had a good point, and I want to tell you I love the way you painted (especially) the top of Buddha's head. Those rounded beads are fantastic!

  3. Asit,

I appreciate your honesty in posting something that you aren't 100% satisfied with. Maybe it's appropriate that this subject matter is proving to be difficult, and yes, it's part of your journey as you said. Well done!

    Take care,
    Brian

  6. Asit, I know that your intention was to paint Buddha, and I appreciate very much your honesty....but, never mind.....to me you have painted a nice Greek mithological figure with behind a fantastic blue setting. Ciao!

  7. Sounds like a Buddha series is in the works. I like the simple strength in this painting even though I know it isn't portraying your idea as you intended.
    Stay inspired!

  9. AK, it is ok if it didnt turn out the way you wanted it to be, we dont post to please or compete with any one, as you said it is a journey which is bound to have ups and downs. To be truthful with oneself is a great virtue and you got an opportunity to demonstrate the same :-)
According to me,the peace is missing mainly because the lips are drooping instead of smiling, there is no eyebrow and there is no tranquility due to the movement in the back ground. But still the color composition is lovely. Hope to see a tranquil buddha from you soon:-)

  10. Fascinating journey with colour, isn't it? Just when you think you have it nailed, it throws you a curve ball!
Bravo to you for posting all of the journey!
Good luck in portraying exactly what you wanted the next time :)

  11. Not bad sir, may be the colors used are darker for peace and silence, and the contrast from the lighter on the right to the dark one on the left is the turbulence in this theme.

  12. Asit, |I like this painting! Rhonda is right in saying that it does not really convey the peace and serenity you were after - I believe that this is due to the movement created by the diagonal lines of the background. Nevertheless, this is a most successful painting in my opinion.
As for posting something you are not entirely satisfied with...this is great! I post almost everything I paint - we are on a journey, not static at our destination.

I enjoy your posts and your art.
